WHAT IS LINUX AND TO SERVE?

Linux or (GNU/Linux) is an operating system like MacOS, DOS or Windows. That is, Linux is the software for your computer that lets you use programs such as text editors, games, web browsers, etc. Linux can be use through a graphical interface like Windows or MacOS, but can also be used through command lineas DOS.



HISTORY OF LINUX

In 1991, Linus Torvalds in Helsinki, I find that it was not possible to extend Minix, so he decided to write its own operating system compatible with Unix. Torvalds decided to use the GNU system complete with its own nucleus, wich took of as Linux (Linux Is Not Unix). the whole system ( GNU tool and Linux kernel) is what we call (GNU/LInux).

NAME

Linus Torvalds had wanted to call his invention Freak, a portmanteau of freak (abonormal or unusual), free, and "X", an allusion Unix During initial work on the system, stored the files under the name "freak"for about half a year. Torvalds had already considered the name "Linux", but a first he had dismissed as Damasio egocentric or selfish. Later, however, Torvalds steeped in to use the name "Linux".
